My One Little Word

Okay, I have to admit sometimes I’m just obstinate about joining in. I don’t read That Book That Everyone’s Reading because everyone’s reading it. I don’t usually buy the latest fashion until it’s the only thing left on the rack. I haven’t done a December Daily album and I don’t do Project Life. Nothing wrong with them and I love seeing what everyone else does, but something in me just can’t get on board with it. And, since I think scrapbooking (as much of life) takes all kinds, I’m okay with foraging my own road. (And, yes, that includes mixing my metaphors!)

One Little Word has been one of those things. I think it’s cool idea that the amazing Ali Edwards has come up, but really I thought it was cool for OTHER people.

So, here I find myself part of an AMAZING Mastermind group with some of my scrapping besties, Monica Bradford and Danielle Taylor. Yesterday, they were talking about their new words for 2013. I enjoyed listening to what they came up with and why. I started thinking about what I would pick. What word would I want to spend a whole year with? Thinking about? Meditating on? Guiding me?

Honestly, I didn’t think I would come up with one.

Then, it came to me.

Intention.

Now, before you start telling me the way to some really bad places are paved with this word, let me explain myself.

2012 was a tough year. Frankly, the last few years haven’t been the easiest. I’ve been watching things happen in my life and felt like there wasn’t anything I could do about it but go along for the ride and keep my chin up.

Intention.

The way I see it now – January 1, 2013 – Intention is a way for me to take control of the things I can take control of and do something with it. Using what I have, you might say. If I want to reach a goal, say building this blog for example, I have to work with intent. I have to work with intention and write posts. I have to work with intention to put together worthy projects. I have to work with intention to make it the best I can.

It isn’t just going to happen.

I can have the great ideas, but if I don’t work with intent, they are not going to happen. This works in many areas for me. Motherhood, being a wife, being a good daughter, being a friend, being a valuable worker. I have to work with intention to be better at these things. I may get points for showing up, but I have a better chance of succeeding if I work with intended purpose towards my goals.

So, here I am…joining. My One Little Word for 2013 is Intention. I am going to work with intention to make my life better and work toward my goals.

What’s your One Little Word? I’d love to hear it!

Happy New Year!
Kelli

  1. I’m so glad you decided to do this. This is my fourth year and each year it does add a bit more to my life. I don’t do new years resolutions, I just keep this word top of mind all year and somehow things magically happen. 2013 I’m choosing gratitude. Be fun to join you on this journey! :)

  2. Kelli your such an inspiration for others. Glad to see your still attempting to blog. Glad to see your advances in scrapbooking and that your sharing with others all that you have learned. I admire all that you do…I hope you meet your goals and “intentions” for 2013.

  3. What a wonderful word to use for 2013. This is a first for me as well this year because I don’t usually jump on the bandwagon either. I did with December daily last year and it was wonderful I took photos of things that I never took photos of before! So I BELIEVE that my word BELIEVE is going to end up bringing great things to me in 2013! Good luck with leading your year with intention!!!

  4. I LOVE your word KP! Living with intention is a perfect mantra for 2013. And I have a feeling you’ll be surprised with how big of a difference setting an ‘intention’ can have on your life. Here’s to intention in 2013!

      • I was also moved by Monica’s SHINE post!! It really made me think… my word, because at the last minute I decided I needed to play along is DISCIPLINE. I want to bring more discipline into my life, for my business, my fitness and my family life. I love the word intention too!

        Alice.

  5. Kelli, I know what you mean about not running with the rest of the pack. I love your Intention! I kept hearing about a friend’s word, and then the next year it seemed like I just kept coming back to the same thought over and over, and ended up with an “unofficial” word that I just never shook! :) This year I decided to have an official word and it is “Focus!”

Some packs are worth running with! CYB-MM is certainly just that!

  6. Great word! I wish you the best of luck this year and look forward to following you throughout the year with your word and how you progress.

  7. I am so glad to see your word. I admire the “living life intentionally” way of being. You will be thrilled with your word and how it just bring focus to an area of your mind that goes with you through your days. We will all have fun together with our words. “Shiny!”
